Our observation as a group is that with the growing number of social media apps and contact information, it becomes more difficult to exchange the information you want in a convenient and fast manner. We wanted to see how we could help college students, job seekers, recruiters, and marketers form quick and long lasting connections by increasing the speed, accuracy, and amount of information exchanged per 2-person interaction.
Solution
We had the idea to create an app that would implement NFC technology to allow the user to exchange contact information with another user by tapping phones together. The contact information that is received will be in the form of a digital business card that the user will be able to design and make unique to themselves.
Mockups
We initially started out with a paper prototype that highlighted the home page of the app and where to find everything. We decided to include the user’s personal business card at the homepage with the option to see who is nearby.
We then decided to create low-fidelity prototypes to show the different pages of the app such as the customization page and settings. We also included a button that would allow the user to tap phones with another person to exchange the contact information.
We then pitched our idea to the class. Since our app was one of our professor’s favorite ideas, he volunteered our group to present our app and perform user testing at the grand opening of the Design and Innovation Building on our campus. To do this testing, my group eventually created a high fidelity prototype that we would let people try out at the grand opening.
Prototype
For our user testing, we decided to create a poster board that highlighted our process up until that point and a QR code that would let people try out the app for themselves. We included a little survey as well that we asked people to fill out in order to receive further suggestions on how to improve. Some of the main suggestions we have received were to improve on the categorization, as well as just making the app seem more polished. We used these suggestions to improve on the final product that we used for our presentation.
User Testing
Branding and Final Product
After we did our adjustments to our product, we decided to move into the next phase of branding and marketing. We created a landing page of the app as well as different social media sites to further advertise our app. We also created a spreadsheet of our future plans with the app if we chose to move further with it which included trying our app out in different career fairs as well as making google ads for it. We made an introduction video to introduce the app.
